Interactive models, hands-on exhibits, and films trace the formation and settlement of the Upper Swabian landscape. Displays spanning roughly 1,000 years of urban life recount the struggles of the Middle Ages, the notorious bandit Schwarzer Veri, the world wars, and the Nazi era.
Alongside major works of Upper Swabian art are the original studios of the Munich animal painters Anton Braith and Christian Mali, as well as the studio of Jakob Bräckle, which was moved to the museum in 1997. Highlights of the collection include the works of the Expressionist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
Admission is free for children and young people up to age 18. Admission is generally free on Saturdays.
