The Hospital zum Heiligen Geist was founded around 1239 as a charitable foundation and rebuilt in its present form following the city fire of 1516.

It is the largest medieval building complex, which was dedicated to works of mercy within its walls.

A hospital, orphanage, nursing home, and even an asylum (madhouse) were just some of the functions the Spital served.

Today, it houses, among other things, the Biberach Museum.
